Everything you need to know
about DotPhraser.

What is a dot phrase?

A dot phrase (sometimes called a SmartPhrase) is a reusable text template in your EHR. You type a short trigger like .myhtnfu and your EHR expands it into a full note template. Dot phrases can include dynamic patient data, fillable blanks, dropdown pick-lists, and references to other phrases.

How does DotPhraser work?

You describe the dot phrase you want in plain English — the note type, clinical context, what should be static vs. fillable — and DotPhraser's AI generates a fully formatted phrase body ready to paste into your EHR's dot phrase editor. You can save, edit, and reuse phrases from your personal library.

Do I need to know my EHR's syntax to use DotPhraser?

No. That's the point. DotPhraser handles the @TOKEN@ syntax, *** wildcards, and SmartList formatting automatically. You focus on the clinical content; DotPhraser handles the formatting.

Can I paste the output directly into my EHR?

Yes. Click the copy button and paste the phrase body into your EHR's dot phrase editor. You may need to adjust a few token names to match your institution's specific build.

Why might some SmartLinks not work at my institution?

SmartLink token names like @LASTCBC@ or @BPSYS@ are configured per EHR instance. A token that exists at one organization may be named differently — or not exist at all — at another. DotPhraser uses a curated registry of commonly available tokens, but you should verify each token against your organization's EHR build or ask your analyst before deploying a phrase.

Does DotPhraser store patient data?

No. DotPhraser generates phrase templates — it never handles real patient information. Do not paste actual patient notes or identifiable data into the prompt field. The tool is designed to help you build reusable documentation structures, not to process or store clinical records.

Is DotPhraser a clinical decision support tool?

No. DotPhraser is a documentation drafting tool. It helps you create the structure and syntax of a dot phrase — it does not provide clinical recommendations. Always review AI-generated phrase content before using it in real patient care documentation.

What's included in the free plan?

Who is DotPhraser built for?

I'm an EHR analyst — can DotPhraser help me build phrases for my department?

Absolutely. DotPhraser is well-suited for analysts and informaticists who need to rapidly prototype and iterate on dot phrase templates before deploying them organization-wide. The export-friendly output and phrase library make it easy to manage a collection of templates.
